Gaming News Issue 5

We’re back with a few big gaming news stories this week! We’ll be talking about Sony’s latest feature for the PS4 that will give you a reason to hold on to it. Some big news from Bioware regarding the Mass Effect series. And Genshin Impact developers MiHoYo have just fixed a potentially large data leak exposing user information. Let’s take a further look!

Sony recently announced a new feature that will be coming to the PS4 that may make you want to keep it around even after buying a PS5. As some may know, PS4 had a Remote Play feature that allowed one to play their PS4 from their PC or mobile devices. As it turns out, Sony is now updating that feature to allow a person to play their PS5 from their PS4! What this means is if you have a dedicated spot for your PS5, you can plug your PS4 into a different TV in your house and then have access to your PS5 from two different TV screens! The PS4 will be able to stream at 1080p, but you can also access the PS5 from mobile or PC with an option of HDR on either.

Bioware has recently made two big announcements for the Mass Effect universe recently. The first is the release of a trailer that has announced a remaster for the Mass Effect trilogy being released for the next gen consoles and PC. But that’s not all they have in store, as a teaser image was recently released announcing the beginnings of a new Mass Effect title in the works. Many people are theorizing on whether this new title will be a sequel to the trilogy or to Andromeda, or possibly both or neither. Developer Casey Hudson also released a tweet depicting some unused concept art with a hint that it may come to fruition in the new title. The new game however is still in very early stages, so it will be a while before we get any big updates about it. But for now, you can look forward to the Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster coming out in Spring 2021!

There’s been a potentially big user data leak from MiHoYo’s Genshin Impact in the form of giving out user’s mobile numbers. Several Reddit users have corroborating stories that when following the password reset link and inputting their email addresses, the site would list their mobile number in full to send a verification link to said number. This means that if someone were to type in any email address into the password reset screen, they could get that users mobile number and associated email address. MiHoYo has stated that this issue has been resolved, and several people have confirmed that their numbers are no longer uncensored, but it’s unknown at this time how long this leak may have been up for and if anyone may have been affected by it. If you have an account with MiHoYo, it may be advised to take some security precautions in case your number was found.

That’s all the news I have for this week! Let me know in the comments below what you think about this week’s articles and if you plan to pick up the Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster! Or if you want the trilogy for cheap, you can buy the vanilla version of it off of Humble Bundle through the link below which will support a charity organization (chosen either by me or Humble Bundle depending on the title) and support my writing endeavors!

  1. Um , but if you’re gonna do all that , why not just use the PS5 instead? You already have it , so why would you play on the PS4’s old hardware when you have a shiny and new PS5?

      1. What this means is if your PS5 is plugged into your living room TV, and a family member is watching TV or a movie there, you can keep your PS4 plugged into say a bedroom TV and continue playing in there without having to disconnect and reconnect the PS5 over and over again. It’s kind of like being able to access your PS5 from anywhere in the house without having to move it.
